In pre-colonial times, present day Ecuador was home to ancient cultures, whose skillful artists left a bountiful legacy of arts and crafts. Nowadays these artistic manifestations are an inseparable part of the nation's culture and a rightful reason for pride among its inhabitants.
To pay homage to these beautiful cultures and the legacy they left behind, Destileria Zhumir - on of Ecuador's most traditional distilleries - has created Canuto Highland Rum.
Crafted in small batches, Canuto 7 Years is a molasses rum from Ecuador and the only rum to be produced from high altitude sugar cane. Subsequently aged in the cold dampness of the Andes at almost 2,000 meters above sea level, this delicate rum acquires a delicate taste on par with the best rums in the world.
As a sign of its true small batch quality, each single bottle is numbered and personally signed by our maestro ronero.
Due to the slow paced, high-altitude aging, Canuto 7 Years boasts a thick and dry flavor, with soft notes of vanilla, followed by oak and forest fruits. The finish is long, pleasant and with no excessive sweetness.
On the nose, Canuto is initially very mild, but if left to "breathe" uncovered in the glass for 8-10 minutes, this delicate rum starts releasing its best features. The initial tingle of alcohol vapor quickly disappears leaving room for a fascinating aroma of vanilla followed by forest fruits and butterscotch.
